Louisa Lord and Alexander Dick

Louisa LORD was born on 8 Jul 1808 in Sydney, NSW, and baptized on 23 Aug 1809. On 5 Jun 1824 when Louisa was 15, she married Alexander DICK, son of Robert DICK & Isobel KENNEDY, in Sydney, NSW. He was in Sydney at the time. (See service record below) A Special License was granted to Rev Mr John Dunmore Lang 3 June 1824 authorising him to marry Capt Alexander Dick and Louisa Lord according to the rites of the Church of Scotland on 5 June 1824.
 

Alexander Dick was born on 3 Apr 1786, at Logierait, perthshire, Scotland. He died 25 Nov 1875 at Dehra Dun, Bengal,

India. His headstone reads:-

 

"Sacred to the memory of General Alexander Dick HEICS son of the late Robert Dick Esq of Tullymet, Perthshire. who died 25th November 1875 at Dehra Dun."

Ensign 5/10/1804;  Lieut 5/10/1804 (sic);  Capt. 1/1/1819; Major 22/4/1826; Lt. Col 4/5/1831;  Col 8/2/1843;  Maj. Gen. 20/6/1854;  Lt. Gen. 4/7/1856;  General 3/5/1866.
 
Served in:
2nd Mahratta War, 1805;  Lieut. 2/17th N.I. Capture of Java in 1811;  Cornelis:  Lieut 5th Vol Bn (Medal);  Capt. 2/17th N.I.  Leave s.c. to NSW 22/1/1823-15/2/1826.  Transfd. to 31st N.I. on 1 July 1823;  to 62nd N.I. (late 2/31st) May 1824.  Posted as  Lt Col to 52nd N.I.  Transferred to 71st N.I. 16/1/1834. Bdr, 2 cl., comdg. at Agra 5 Dec 1845 till 1850. (Joan Nicholls)

Obituary - died 2 November, 1881
OBIT :- Col Dick of the 29th and 13th Regiments, died on Nov 2 at Brighton, age 59. He was the son of the late General A Dick, of the EICS and served with the 29th Regiment in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, being present at he battle of Ferozeshah. He served throughout the Punjab campaign, including the passage of the Chenab and the battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat. During the Indian mutiny he served with the 8th Regiment.

Died                      - 2/11/1881 at 47 Grand Parade, Brighton.
Age                       - 55 years
Occupation            - Lieut-Colonel late of the 13th Regiment.
Cause of death       - Caries** of spine;  asthma;  syncope
Present at death     - A.  Rawlinson of 47 Grand Parade, Brighton.
