Francis LORD was born in 1812 in Sydney, NSW, and died in Rydal, NSW on 21 Dec 1897, he was 85. He is buried in St Thomas, North Sydney, NSW.

Francis Lord opened and operated a store in Bathurst with his brother in law, Stachan Hanesworth. He left this and became a grazier on land at Cumnock, and was the original owner of "Burraway".  Francis Lord owned "Mt Lambie" at Rydal, near Bathurst.
In 1843, the first elective council, Francis Lord was elected MLC for Bathurst, and continued to be a memebr of parliament until his death in 1892. In 1856 he was a memeber of Cabinet.
Francis moved to live at St Leonards in Sydney. In 1868 he was a member of the first council for the borough of East St Leonards. He owned two houses in St Leonards which are of historic interest.
One is now St. Joseph’s Convent, built by Mr. Francis LORD, called  “Ma-sa-lou” , after his daughters Mary, Sarah and Louisa.
The second home, "The Lodge", was opposite the St leonards Council Chambers. Information about this area, called the Walker Street Conservation Area, can be found here.

The first services in St Barnabus Parish, Bathurst, were on land given by Francis Lord, at the corner of Bant and Bathurst Streets, the site of St Barnabus Church of England. Francis was also closely connected with St Thomas' Church at North Sydney, and was a member of the committee elected to build a new Church on the site of the old one. He is buried in the Cemetery of this Church.

Prior to his marriage to Mary Hanesworth, Francis had one child with Barbara Mill. This child, Mary, married into the Machattie family of Bathurst, another family prominent in early Australian politics.
