John Joseph Davies
came to Australia in 1930 on "Lady Rowena". He was the patriach of a family which later connected with some of the well known
names in early Australian history. These include the Barkers, through his wife, Mary Ann; the Josephsons, through his daughter,
Louisa Jane; the Robertsons, through his daughter, Margaret Emma: and the Moriarty family through his son, John Henry Davies.
In 1997, Elsie Ritchie published a book about this family called 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor", a fitting title for
this diverse group interconnected through marriage. Elsie's book has been my inspiration and major source for the family of
John Joseph Davies, and I would like to ackowledge her contribution here.
